Her sister had married an alien. It hadn’t even truly registered with Stephanie Delour that Mallory was gone until she found herself standing in front of their old home locked out.

She knew that Mallory had scrimped and saved where she could. But with the discovery that her sister had resorted to selling herself to an alien for enough credits for the treatment, she pushed herself through recovery.

Running off with the money wasn’t an option.

So, Stephanie decided to find her sister to, well, she wasn’t entirely sure what she was going to do. She just knew that a life amongst the stars wasn’t as appealing as it used to be. Not with Mallory’s fate looming over her head. Not without Mallory by her side.

Qui’da had come to regret not giving his sister-in-law a chance all because she was a human. And now the entire flock, his family included, had turned their backs on him. Given the option to either lose his wings or work with the humans, he chose the latter.

Losing his wings wasn’t an option.

But forced into close proximity with the wingless rats wasn’t much of one either. Unfortunately for him, he would be finding himself forced to work rather closely with an infuriating woman traipsing across the planet to find his old flock.

WIP Wednesday

“I’m totally going to do some recon for you.”

Gabi knew she was going to regret telling Summer about him. Of course she was. Feeling her heart freeze in her chest, she looked up from the sketch she was working on, her eyes rounded with sheer terror. Gabi set her pencil down deliberately before glancing at the blonde who was currently lounging on her tattoo chair. “Um, no you’re not.”

Summer’s shiny pink lips curved upwards, mirth radiating from her in droves. “Yes. I’m totally doing this for you.”

She slid off of the chair, rolling her bare ivory shoulders at the panicking tattoo artist. “It’s already decided,” Summer informed her as she headed out of her work space and for the front of the parlor. Gabi could feel her heart lurch into her throat in horror.

“No, no it’s not.” Gabi rose from her own seat, trailing after her best friend. “Come on, Summer. Be reasonable.”

“It’ll be fine, I promise.” She just waved Gabi off as she reached for the door. “Besides, it’s better to know now if he’s spoken for or not. It’ll save you some hurt down the road.”

“What road! I have no intention of going down any road!”

WIP Wednesday/Camp Nanowrimo Day 12

Rhea could barely contain the scream of frustration that was building up. The smiley face on the test confirmed her fears. She was pregnant.

She ran her fingers through her hair as she tossed the test, heaving a sigh. She really had no idea what she was going to do with this new knowledge. She already knew she would be bringing the child into this world, there was no question about that. She just couldn’t even fathom the thought of not doing so. First of all, it was deeply ingrained in her being that it was wrong. Rhea considered herself pro-choice, but it wasn’t for her.

The thought of having to break the news to that asshole didn’t sit quite well with her. She already knew how he was going to react. But for now, he was going to be put on the back burner because she really didn’t want to deal with his crap. Not today.

WIP Wednesday

Just a little something I’ve been working on lately. Check it out.

“I don’t know about this, Terrance.”

“Look, it’ll be fine. I don’t really care.” At the sheer callous tone, she bristled.  Really? He didn’t care that after five fucking years spent in a relationship that she was to the point that she was so unhappy that she suggested they should see other people. Wow. She just felt the love radiating off of him in droves.

What she really wanted to do was tell him to fuck off and move on with her life, but instead she went with, “… alright, I guess.”

They would still be together, but allowed to… date around. It wasn’t that she wanted to see someone else. She was happy… or she had been anyway. Lately though, not so much. He didn’t put in any effort anymore and it broke her heart to see him so moody and depressed, but nothing she did seemed to help. And she had no intentions of mentioning therapy again after he blew up on her the one time she brought it up.
“You know I love you, right?”

He shrugged, offering, “Mmmhmmm.”

“I just…” She bit her lip, “Are you sure you’re okay with this?”

“It’s not like you’re my soulmark, Talia. It’s fine.”  Tears sprung into her eyes as she found her hands fisting by her side. That uncaring, utter bastard has the audacity…

“Right. You’re right.” Pursing her lips, she stalked over to the door and picked up her discarded purse and jacket, “I’ll see you later.” She made sure to slam the door behind her. That unimaginable bastard. It took what little self-control she had not to slam it several more times for good measure.

She really couldn’t believe how little he cared for her. Sure, they weren’t a Fated Pair, but they were still in love! Or at least, they had been. He didn’t seem to care much for the past year and a half. Talia couldn’t be sure if this was because he was bored of her or he was depressed, but either way she was certain that if things didn’t change he’d drive her straight out the door.

She stubbornly brushed away the gathering tears that had begun stinging her eyes, glancing at the apartment door with longing as she waited for the elevator to arrive.

Come after me, Terrance. Please?

When the ping alerted her to the presence of the elevator, she gave one final glance to their shared apartment, the last glimmer of hope she so desperately held on to dying out. The tears started falling freely as the metal doors slid shut in the resounding silence.
